Luca Scassa on an MV Agusta F4 1000R has won his first race in the Superstock 1000 World Cup series on one of his favourite tracks: Brands Hatch.
Luca was in second place from the off and was involved in a tightly fought battle throughout the race. On the first lap, the pole position holder Ayrton Badovini dropped back to fifth following a moment's hesitation but by the ninth lap had clawed his way back to catch up with the leaders, Scassa and Polita. From then on the race was a fabulous fight between the three of them with the lead changing hands regularly.
Just three bends away from the flag on the last lap, Badovini who had a five tenths lead over Scassa, made a mistake and very nearly lost control of the bike.
The Team Unionbike Gimotorsports rider tried again at the next bend but went in too deep. By the time he had regained his line had also lost second place. Luca, who rides for the Team EVR Corse Ormeni Racing, was first across the finishing line followed four tenths of a second later by the series leader Polita with Badovini in third position. Once again after, Misano and Brno, we had two MV Agusta F4 1000R's on the podium.
Luca Scassa: "I am over the moon, I finally did it and on a track that I love! I have known right from the start of the season that I could win on this bike and neither the team nor I have ever doubted this. We have worked really well together and I would like to thank everyone."
Ayrton Badovini: "I started the last lap with about a half second lead; I may have mismanaged this by thinking that the guys behind me were closer than they were. I was going hard so that they couldn't pass me and I made a mistake …"
This excellent finish by Scassa now takes him only nineteen points from the leader Polita and Badovini is in second place only 6 points off the lead. MV Agusta are getting nearer not only to the world title but also to the manufacturer's championship. The next race is on the 27th August at Misano for the second last round of the Championship that will see Scassa lead the general classification.
